An established and progressive national care home group, in operation for over 15 years, provides an excellent standard of care to more than 1000 residents across 25 facilities in the United Kingdom.
Building on the success of the existing portfolio, the company has plans to expand to more than 30 sites within the next 12 months and provide the same care to hundreds more.
With many expansion plans underway the national care home group’s aim was, and still is, to achieve complete sustainability across the group.
Before rolling out the programme to all sites, the client wanted to see, and experience the benefits of, a completed installation.
A mutual acquaintance had recommended Climateshield for a commercial project they’d completed on their behalf, so we arranged for them to attend our flagship facility in Hull for an evaluation.
After an initial survey of the five buildings within the facility, a potential issue was realised.
If panels were to be installed on all five buildings, substantial work would have to be completed by the local District Network Operator on upgrading cabling to the local substation that powered the facility. This would mean a significant increase in initial costs and delays.
To get around this obstacle, we recommended installing panels on two of the five buildings, and the system we identified as being most suited to the situation was comprised of a 66.64kwp Solar PV system, 196 x JA Solar 340w panels (Tier 1 and bankable), two 30kw Solis inverters with monitoring and an export limiting device.
A Salthouse Carehome spokesman said: “We were impressed with how quickly Climateshield addressed the problem and found a workable solution for us, completing the installation on time and well within budget.”
The group have already reaped dividends from the Hull installation – in the six months post installation figures show a huge 30% decrease in energy costs.
The spokesman added: “With such pleasing results, Climateshield have already showcased their excellent ability to provide a solution that meets our objectives: to reduce costs and improve our sustainability rating. We look forward to continuing our work together implementing the sustainability programme on a national scale throughout our Group estate.”
