An established and progressive national care home group, in operation for over 15 years, provides an excellent standard of care to more than 1000 residents across 25 facilities in the UK. Building on the success of the existing portfolio, the company has plans to expand to more than 30 sites within the next 12 months and provide the same care to hundreds more.
(Continuing to help a national care home business to realise their ambitious sustainability plans and slash energy costs across the group).
Before rolling out the programme to all sites, the client wanted to see, and experience the benefits of a second completed installation.
“As Climateshield had already installed a solar pv system successfully at our flagship site earlier in the year, we arranged for them to attend our second facility in Hull for an evaluation.”
After an initial survey of the site, a potential issue was realised. If panels were to be installed on all three south-facing aspects, there would be some shading issues. This would mean a significant decrease in generation and a longer return on investment for the client.
To get around the shading issues obstacle, we recommended installing panels portrait and landscape, trimming trees, and using special optimizers on every panel to isolate the shading issues to the panels concerned rather than affecting a complete string (row).
The system we identified as being most suited to the situation comprised of a 27.75kwp Solar PV system, 74 x JA Solar 375w panels (Tier 1 and bankable), 38 SolarEdge optimisers, and 25kw SolarEdge inverters with monitoring.
“We were again very impressed with how Climateshield addressed the site issues and found a workable solution for us, completing the installation on time and within budget”
Despite the second site having its system only installed for the last 4 months it’s already saving money and reaching higher generation figures than first estimated–post-installation figures show a 30% decrease in energy consumption from the grid.
“Climateshield have again provided a solution that meets our sustainability objectives: to reduce costs and improve our sustainability rating. We look forward to continuing our work together implementing the sustainability programme on a national scale throughout our
